1. Introduction & Overview

Welcome to PagePace ("we", "our", "us", or the "Application"). PagePace is developed and maintained by Chamod Rashmith as an offline-first book reading habit tracker and dynamic reading pace companion designed for mobile devices.

We believe that your personal reading habits, literary reflections, daily progress, and personal notes are entirely your own business. This Privacy Policy outlines our principles regarding data privacy, explains what information is handled when you use the Application, and describes how we protect your privacy in compliance with applicable global privacy laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA / CPRA), and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), as well as the Google Play Store Developer Program Policies and Apple App Store Review Guidelines.

2. Core Philosophy: 100% Offline-First & Zero Data Collection

PagePace is engineered from the ground up as a 100% offline-first, local application:

No Remote Backend / Cloud ServersWe do not own, maintain, or connect to any remote server or cloud database to store your reading activities.
No Account Creation or Login RequiredYou do not need an email, phone number, username, password, or third-party social media login (such as Google, Facebook, or Apple ID) to access or use the features of PagePace.
No Tracking or User FingerprintingWe do not track you across other applications, websites, or services. We do not generate advertising IDs or user identifiers.

3. Information We Collect and Process

A. Personal Information

We do NOT collect any personally identifiable information (PII).

We do not collect, request, transmit, sell, or store your:

  • Name, email address, physical address, or phone number
  • IP address or hardware MAC address
  • Device identifiers (IMEI, Android ID, IDFA, or Advertising ID)
  • Precise or coarse geolocation
  • Biometric data or payment/financial information

B. User-Generated Reading Data (Stored Exclusively On-Device)

When you use PagePace, you may input or generate data related to your reading habits, including:

  • Book Details: Book titles, authors, total pages, cover preferences, and target completion dates or target duration.
  • Reading Progress Logs: Logged page increments, timestamps of reading sessions, and daily reading pace quotas.
  • Reading Insights & Streaks: Calculated reading velocity, average daily pace, current streak count, and unlocked milestone badges.
  • Notes & Book Quotes Journal: Personal thoughts, chapter summaries, key takeaways, and page-tagged book quotes.
  • App Preferences: Reading reminder preferences, notification schedules, and theme selections (Light/Dark/System).
Storage Location: All the above user-generated data is stored strictly and exclusively in a sandboxed, private SQLite database (via Drift) and local key-value store (SharedPreferences) located on your physical device. This data is never transmitted, synced, backed up, or shared over any network to external servers by PagePace.

4. Device Permissions and Usage

PagePace only requests permissions that are strictly necessary to deliver its core functionality. Below is a detailed breakdown of the permissions requested and why they are needed:

PermissionAndroid IdentifierPurpose
Post Notificationsandroid.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONSAllows PagePace to post daily reading habit reminders that you have configured in the app.
Schedule Exact Alarmandroid.permission.SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM
android.permission.USE_EXACT_ALARM
Allows the on-device alarm manager to trigger your daily reading reminders at the exact minute you specified without battery-saving drift.
Receive Boot Completedandroid.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETEDAllows the app to reschedule your local daily reminders if your device is restarted or rebooted.

Important Permission Guarantees:

  • Notifications are 100% Local: Reading reminders are generated and dispatched locally by your device's operating system via the flutter_local_notifications library. No remote push notification servers (e.g., Firebase Cloud Messaging / APNs) are utilized.
  • No Network Permission for Core Tracking: PagePace does not communicate with external servers to operate its reading pace algorithms or analytics.
  • No Intrusive Permissions: PagePace does NOT request access to your contacts, call logs, SMS, camera, microphone, or background location.

5. Third-Party Services, Analytics, and Advertising

Zero Analytics SDKs: PagePace does NOT embed third-party telemetry, analytics, or event-tracking SDKs (such as Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Segment, Flurry, or Sentry).

Zero Advertising Networks: PagePace does NOT display advertisements, nor does it include advertising SDKs (such as Google AdMob, Unity Ads, Meta Audience Network, or AppLovin).

Zero Social Media Trackers: PagePace does NOT incorporate social sharing trackers or web beacons.

6. Data Retention, Backup, and Deletion

Because all your data is stored locally on your device, you retain complete and absolute ownership of your data at all times:

  • Data Retention: Your reading records, quotes, and statistics remain on your device for as long as you keep the Application installed or until you choose to clear the data.
  • Data Deletion: You can delete your data at any time by:
    1. Clearing the application's storage and cache via your device's system settings (Settings > Apps > PagePace > Storage > Clear Data).
    2. Uninstalling the PagePace application from your device.
  • Permanent Deletion: Performing either of the actions above permanently and irreversibly erases all local database records, quotes, and reading logs from your device. Because we do not store copies on any server, we cannot restore or recover deleted data.

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K Compliance)

PagePace is designed to be safe for users of all ages, including children.

  • The Application does not knowingly collect, store, solicit, or transmit any personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 for residents of the European Economic Area / UK).
  • Because PagePace operates completely offline and collects zero personal information from any user, it is fully compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Article 8 of the GDPR.
  • If a parent or guardian has questions regarding our privacy practices, please contact us using the contact details provided in Section 11.

8. International Compliance and User Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have statutory rights under data protection laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK Data Protection Act, or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA / CPRA):

  • Right of Access / Portability: You have access to all your reading data directly within the Application UI at all times.
  • Right to Rectification: You can edit or correct any book, page count, or note directly inside the app.
  • Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): You can immediately erase all your data by clearing app storage or uninstalling the app.
  • "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information": We do not sell, rent, trade, or share any personal information with any third party, broker, or advertiser under any circumstance.

9. Data Security

We care deeply about the security of your data:

  • All reading information and personal reflections are protected by the mobile operating system's application sandbox (Android / iOS sandboxing architecture), which prevents unauthorized applications from accessing PagePace's internal database.
  • Since PagePace does not transmit your reading data over the internet, your data is immune to man-in-the-middle network interceptions, cloud data leaks, or server-side security breaches.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may periodically update our Privacy Policy to reflect app enhancements, new features, or changes in legal requirements. Any updates will be published within this file, in the application's official code repository, and in the relevant app store listing. The date at the top of this document indicates when this policy was last revised. We encourage users to periodically review this Privacy Policy for any updates.
